چکیده

To analyze the performance of multimedia service systems, which have unreliable resources, and to estimate the capacity requirement of the systems, we have developed a capacity planning model using an open queueing network. By acquisition of utilization, queue length of the resources and packet delay, and reliability of the systems, we have derived the service capacity of the systems along with the arrival rates of clients and the failure rates of the resources. We have validated the proposed capacity planning model by comparison of analytic results with simulation output. 2001 Elsevier Science Inc. All rights reserved.

Unreliable Server Mx/G/1 Queue with Loss-delay, Balking and Second Optional Service

This investigation deals with MX/G/1 queueing model with setup, bulk- arrival, loss-delay and balking. The provision of second optional service apart from essential service by an unreliable server is taken into consideration. We assume that the delay customers join the queue when server is busy whereas loss customers depart from the system. After receiving the essential service, the customers m...

Analytic Modelling of the WCDMA Downlink Capacity in Multi-Service Environments

The Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) operates with Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) over the air interface. In the literature, the CDMA uplink, e.g. as implemented by the IS-95 standard, receives most attention due to its limiting influence on the overall network capacity in voice only environments. But with the growing demand of the mobile user for multimedia cont...

On Stochastic Performance and Cost-Aware Optimal Capacity Planning of Unreliable Infrastructure-as-a-Service Cloud

Performance evaluation of cloud data-centers has drawn considerable attention from academy and industry. In this study, we present an analytical approach to the performance analysis of Infrastructureas-a-Service cloud data-centers with unreliable task executions and resubmissions of unsuccessful tasks. Several performance metrics are considered and analyzed under variable load intensities, fail...

Adaptive policy of buffer allocation and preventive maintenance actions in unreliable production lines

The buffer allocation problem is an NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem, and it is an important design problem in manufacturing systems. The research proposed in this paper concerns a product line consisting of n unreliable machines with n − 1 buffers and a preventive maintenance policy. The focus of the research is to obtain a better trade-off between the buffer level ...

Single ‎A‎ssignment Capacitated Hierarchical Hub Set Covering Problem for Service Delivery Systems Over Multilevel Networks

The present study introduced a novel hierarchical hub set covering problem with capacity constraints. This study showed the significance of fixed charge costs for locating facilities, assigning hub links and designing a productivity network. The proposed model employs mixed integer programming to locate facilities and establish links between nodes according to the travel time between an origin-...
